Our approach to child protection
We're committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to ensuring our safeguarding practices reflect statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice and British American Football Association requirements. Read our Child Protection statement here. It includes information on our approach to managing and reporting incidents, best practice on working with children and our zero tolerance attitude to bullying.
Checked, qualified and insured coaches
All coaches working with children in the club undertake Disclosure Scotland's Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme check to ensure they don't have a known history of harmful behaviour. They must also hold a minimum of a British American Football Coaching Association Level 1 coaching qualification and be registered and insured with the British American Football association to undertake training sessions.
Any new coaches will always be supervised by lead coaches who are checked, qualified and fully insured until this process is fully completed.
Codes of conduct
We have a coaches code of conduct and a youth and junior players code of conduct. These are shared with new players and coaches and help us ensure we all work in partnership to follow best practice on child welfare within the club.
Club Welfare Officers
We have an overall Club Welfare Officer who's role is to ensure that all adults who have regular access to or responsibility for those under 18 years of age are informated of their responsibilities when working with children, complete the correct forms, are insured and qualified. They also receive and advise on reports from other club members andinitiate any action required with the authorites.
Each team also has a deputy Welfare Officer who acts as a point of contact within their team for players and parents on child protection issues, ensures best practice with regards to working with children is followed within their team and escalates complaints and alleged or suspected incidents to the Club Welfare Officer as required.
